Pedagogical Quality Management: Steering Committee at AvH
Schools are organisms living through constant change and evolution. The school’s steering committee coordinates, organizes and assesses the pedagogical aspects of this evolution, including
- Objectives defined in the AvH school program
- Implementation of the quality framework as prescribed on a federal and state level for German schools abroad
- Coordination of regular external evaluations, such as the BLI Inspection
- Development of quality improvement measures
- Evalution analysis.
As a rule, the steering committee comprises the PQM coordinator and representatives from the following stakeholders: students, staff, administration, board of directors and parents.
The steering committee’s goal is to coordinate various development processes with a view to the school’s specific guiding principles and to ensure compliance with quality standards applied to all German schools abroad.
Following the BLI inspection in 2018, AvH was once more awarded the seal “Excellent German School Abroad”, in recognition of achievements. However, this evaluation also identified certain areas suited for further development. These are:
- Improving independent learning
- Improving linguistic competence in German
- Implementing an evaluative culture
We will continue to work in these areas in a goal-oriented manner and/or initiate development processes.
