Guidance & Career Counseling
Preparing students for life after school and guiding them on their path towards a study program or a profession of their choice is an integral element of the school’s pedagogical mandate. The focus lies on the transition to a CEGEP (college in Quebec) after grade 11 or to universities worldwide after grade 12.

Our students are offered a variety of opportunities to explore possible educational and career paths with events such as:
As part of our guidance and career counseling program, grade 11 students participate in a mandatory two-week internship, with the purpose of gaining experience in the job market. Students also have to write a report about their experience.
Students of grade 10 and 11 participate in a study day around the topic ‘study courses and careers’. Presentations on a variety of professions and fields of training are given, including parents presenting their profession or their line of work and explaining to students the education requirements.
A local professional evaluates students in assessment tests and offers individual consultations on studying in Montreal and Quebec.
At the end of grade 10, parents and students are invited to an information session explaining the choices of CEGEP and DIA. Former AvH students present their experience on transitioning from AvH to CEGEP and/or university.Â
AÂ DAADÂ (German Academic Exchange Service) presentation and information session on bursaries and study programs (e.g. TU9 trial week) takes place in Grade 12 for students who wish to study in Germany.Â
Representatives from McGill and Concordia University visit AvH every school year.
Our students have the opportunity to visit a program of their choice at a CEGEP or a university and be a student for a day.
