Privacy Policy
At Alexander Von Humboldt – German International School (“AvH”), accessible from avhmontreal.ca, one of our main priorities is the privacy of our donors, students, their parents and other individuals that interact with AvH.
This Privacy Policy applies to any personal information that we collect, use, and disclose (collectively “process”) about you, including through https://avhmontreal.ca/, https://avhmontreal.ca/online-store/, https://avhmontreal.ca/inquiry-form/, and through telephone, written, and in-person interactions with you.
What personal information do we process?
Personal information means any information which relates to a natural person and allows that person to be identified directly, or indirectly in combination with other information.
Without limitation, any of the following categories of information may be collected by us:
Academic information |
includes information about a student’s application and student file, course of study, evaluations, academic and related extracurricular or co-curricular achievements. |
Contact information |
includes email, address, postal code and telephone numbers; |
Donor information |
all information’s from the “Donor Form” including the history of past donations made to AvH or the Friends of AvH |
Financial information |
includes bank account information |
Health information |
includes medical history, allergies, disabilities, and any necessary accommodations. |
Identity information |
includes name, date of birth, gender, copies of IDs and other legal documents, Social Insurance Number (Staff and Grade 12), PermCode, Medical Code, username and password. |
Purchase information |
includes information about products/services you have purchased on the AvH Store, including the date of your purchase and the price paid |
In the case of a student’s personal information, the school will seek the consent from the student and/ or parent /legal guardian depending on the circumstances.
We will NOT sell your personal data to another company.
Please note if you provide your credit card information to one of the third-party companies (for example to purchase via our online shop, …) we do not receive or collect as AvH your credit card information.

Information we collect
The personal information that you are asked to provide, and the reasons why you are asked to provide it, will be made clear to you at the point we ask you to provide your personal information.
If you contact us directly (through mail, email, social media or our websites,…), we may receive additional information about you such as your name, email address, phone number, the contents of the message and/or attachments you may send us, and any other information you may choose to provide.
When you register for an Account, we may ask for your contact information, including items such as name, address, email address, telephone number, … .
If you subscribe to our newsletter, respond to a survey, fill out a form, or otherwise input or upload information or files through our websites, by telephone, or in person we may ask for various personal data.

By providing us with Personal Information, you acknowledge and agree that such Personal Information may be transferred to other jurisdictions for processing and storage, including in servers located across Canada, the United States and Europe, where laws regarding the protection of Personal Information may be less stringent than the laws in your jurisdiction.
Log Files
AvH follows a standard procedure of using log files. These files log visitors when they visit websites. All hosting companies do this and form a part of hosting services’ analytics. The information collected by log files include internet protocol (IP) addresses, browser type, Internet Service Provider (ISP), date and time stamp, referring/exit pages, and possibly the number of clicks. These are not linked to any information that is personally identifiable. The purpose of the information is for analyzing trends, administering the site, tracking users’ movement on the website, and gathering demographic information.
Cookies and Web Beacons
Like any other website, AvH uses “cookies”. These cookies are used to store information including visitors’ preferences, and the pages on the website that the visitor accessed or visited. The information is used to optimize the users’ experience by customizing our web page content based on visitors’ browser type and/or other information.

Third-party ad servers or ad networks uses technologies like cookies, JavaScript, or Web Beacons that are used in their respective advertisements and links that appear on AvH, which are sent directly to users’ browser. They automatically receive your IP address when this occurs. These technologies are used to measure the effectiveness of their advertising campaigns and/or to personalize the advertising content that you see on websites that you visit.
Note that AvH has no access to or control over these cookies that are used by third-party advertisers.

Children’s Information
Another part of our priority is adding protection for children while using the internet. We encourage parents and guardians to observe, participate in, and/or monitor and guide their online activity.
AvH does not knowingly collect any Personal Identifiable Information from children under the age of 14. If you think that your child provided this kind of information on our website, we strongly encourage you to contact us immediately and we will do our best efforts to promptly remove such information from our records.
How do we protect your personal information?
We will use reasonable security measures to protect personal information against unauthorized access that are compliant with applicable data protections laws. AvH has implemented security measures that contain administrative, technical and physical controls that are designed to safeguard personal information.
How long will we retain your personal information?
The Personal Information that we collect, access or process will be retained only as long as necessary (government retention periods) for the fulfillment of the purposes for which it was collected and/or for which consent was received, unless otherwise required by law. Personal information that is no longer required to fulfill the identified purposes will be destroyed, erased or made anonymous. AvH will ensure destruction of personal information in a method that prevents improper access.
E-Mail communications
Occasionally, we may send marketing or promotional e-mail communications to you with information that may be useful, including information about upcoming and past AvH events and activities. We will include instructions on how to unsubscribe and inform us of preferences if you decide you do not want to receive any future marketing or promotional e-mails from AvH.
